A young boy has been left fighting for his life in hospital after being seriously injured when he was hit by a firework on Bonfire Night. Officers were called to the Elm Street area of Burnley on Wednesday over reports of fireworks misuse. One of the incidents sadly involved a child sustaining severe injuries and being rushed to hospital.
Lancashire Police has issued black and white images of a person they want to speak to, and appealed to the public for their help. The force said the area is known as a hotspot for the "anti-social use of fireworks", but this event "has gone too far".
It wrote on Facebook: "Police would like to speak to this person in relation to the incident, and we are calling on the community of Burnley to identify him to us.
"We are aware this area has seen previous anti-social use of fireworks, but this year has gone too far, resulting in a child being hospitalised.
"We are urging the community to do the right thing and tell us who he is."
Anyone who recognises the person in the photos should come forward to the police immediately.
Members of the public with information can contact the force at burnley.npt@lancashire.police.uk, quoting investigation reference 04/189049/25.
Youngsters were also left "seriously injured" following an incident involving fireworks at a beach event in Scarborough on Wednesday.
The incident saw police and paramedics called to the scene at 7.15pm after reports that two teens had fireworks go off in their hands and faces, leaving them seriously injured after suffering burns.
