Mumbai: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has extended the deadline for the payment of property tax by three months for the first half of the financial year 2025–26. This decision comes in response to concerns raised by citizens regarding the limited time initially available for making payments.
Civic Official Clarifies
Several taxpayers reported receiving their revised property tax bills late, with only about 15 days left to clear the dues. However, BMC clarified that the delay was due to certain technical issues that affected the printing of the revised bills. Furthermore, the ongoing system upgrade within the Indian Postal Department led to additional delays in the distribution process.
Standard 3-Month Period Revised
"For the first half of the financial year, the standard three-month payment period for property tax bills was initially scheduled to end on August 13. However, due to delays in bill printing and distribution, the deadline has now been extended on a ward-wise basis," said a senior civic official.
