YRF’s most ambitious project to date, War 2, once touted as the crown jewel of the Spy Universe, is now witnessing a steady decline at the box office. The film’s downfall has largely been attributed to the wave of negative reviews and audience backlash it faced immediately after release.
Adding to the buzz, a rather intriguing rumour has been making the rounds on the internet, suggesting that Jr. NTR himself may have influenced the film’s climax. According to reports, the original ending had his character dying in the final act.
However, Jr. NTR is said to have persuaded producer Aditya Chopra to alter the conclusion and keep his character alive. The reason? He reportedly felt that his devoted Telugu fanbase, who often regard him as a demigod on screen, would not accept or appreciate seeing their hero meet such a tragic fate.
If true, this behind-the-scenes change not only shifts the narrative arc of War 2 but also raises questions about how much star power and audience sentiment can dictate the creative direction of a big-budget franchise film.

One user commented, “That was such an abrupt change of heart!!! When an antagonist from the childhood never changed, how come he changed suddenly in the climax in one emotional scene?”

One user reacted, “Either way they didn’t accept the film so it doesn’t make a difference. If it was before RRR he would’ve accepted it but after RRR his image got damaged brutally so he didn’t want it go worse.”

Another user reacted, “I mean it makes sense. telugu and tamil fans take fanaticism to extremes. for example, rajinis fans once burned down a theatre after seeing him die on screen i think that happened during the thalapathy days. they take fandom to another level and that’s why even though rajini wanted to do more character driven roles, his fans are the reason stopping him ,he himself has said this to his fellow colleagues and directors. that said, its not anyones place to demand script changes . rajini simply avoids projects where his character dies instead of trying to change them.”
One user said, “As if killing his character would have brought this film an Oscar. The story failed both NTR and Hrithik who literally broke their backs trying to carry this mess.”
